WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT

The women’s health service is delivered in a respectful, caring, and safe environment where the focus is on the education (preventative / promotion), evaluation, treatment, and support of you as female patient with the aim of empowering you to become an active advocate and participant in realising individual goals and achieving wellness
throughout your life stages.

When you see a women’s health physiotherapist for the first time, you can expect to be asked about your symptoms, experiences, challenges and goals. Some of these questions can be in the form of questionnaires that will either be emailed to you prior, or for you to complete at the practice before the first session. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your first appointment.

All appointments are 1 hour long.

You will undergo a complete physiotherapy body movement and function analysis, so please dress in appropriate exercise clothes, or expect to remove your outer clothes for a full evaluation of body and function. If you are seeing the physio for pelvic floor issues, you can also expect to receive an internal pelvic examination by your women’s health physiotherapist in order to fully evaluate your pelvic floor function. Most of the pelvic floor muscles are only palpable internally and some prolapses cannot be externally observed.

It is understandable that you may be nervous about the above and that you can decline or terminate the assessment at any time. Your physio will discuss with you the exact nature and reasons for the assessment beforehand and you will sign a separate consent form for this part of the evaluation.
